Hey, hey and welcome back to Domestic Mom Bliss. Your favorite blog page for all things crafty, foodie, and mommy. Haha. I tried to make that flow just a little bit.
Today’s post is about making a piggy bank for the kiddos and even yourself. This was a fun project to do with the kids and cool to see how they would decorate their jars. I even made one and so can you.
I am going to talk about what supplies I used, where I got them, and where I got the idea from. Let’s jump in.

What supplies do I need?
The supplies really weren’t hard to find. It’s all up to how you want to decorate it and if you want a theme. I just got a few supplies and let the kids create what they wanted. My boys ages are 1-6 so it was easier for me to let them have at it.
What we used: Pompoms, pipe cleaners, glitter, googly eyes, paint, mason jars, and popsicle sticks. You’ll need a paper plate or some form of cardboard to put the paint on and paint brushes. We also used a hot glue gun. I let my oldest two work with it on their own while I watched, and I helped the others.
I was going to use some glass mason jars I already had in the house, but when I went to pick up the other supplies for the week, I saw they had plastic jars on sale at Hobby Lobby and they were perfect. So, we use the plastic jars instead of the glass ones.
You can also switch up the supplies and use what you want. You don’t have to buy or use the ones we did.
How did we create it?
We painted the jars first and let them dry. Then we painted a second coat and poured some glitter on top of them. They begged me to use the glitter, so I took them outside and we did it.
After that I let them have at it and decorate the jars how they wanted. It was cool to see what they came up with. One had multiple googly eyes and the other made arms and legs on his.
My third child created his own masterpiece and had me glue popsicle sticks and pompoms to his. Check out our creations below.

They are all cool jars. My oldest wanted to start saving some money so that is initially where I got the idea from. I looked up some cool ideas on Pinterest but those were pretty extent and in a lot of detail.
I knew with four kiddos it was going to be difficult to spend time on each one. Plus, they can each put their own creative spin on it.

As you can see they each had their own ideas and now they will love them even more because it is something they have created.

A huge perk of doing arts and crafts is to be able to review them and spend time doing them together with the kids. I’m very excited that they love arts and crafts just as much as I do.
It makes it all the more fun to sit down and do them together. I hope when they get older, they will remember a lot of the crafts we did together. Of course, there was a mess at the end but that’s what it’s all about.
We all help to clean up the mess together and I do the hard work of course. Which is really just getting the accidental paint spills off the floor. This was an awesome project and I plan on setting up a chores chart so they can earn money by doing things around the house.
I’ll let you know how that goes soon. Enjoy the time you have with your littles and it’s okay if things get messy. When are they not messy anyway. Talk soon.
